PUSH: An Evening(s) of Experimental Comedy

For the second year SketchFest presents their after hours alternative comedy event. PUSH was created so that all performers in the art of sketch could have a venue away from the SketchFest main stage where they could try new things, experiment in comedy and advance the form. Part performance and part after show party, PUSH is definitely something different that should not be missed by any fan of sketch comedy. Come and see such performers as TROOP!, The Animal Club, PUNCH DRUnK, Flaming Box of Stuff, Jeff Schell, Dave Swidler, Troy Fischnaller, The Maximum Impact Performance Squad, The Short List, Train of Thought, Furioso, John McKenna and many more perform tomorrow's great comedy today.

WHEN: Friday October 17 and Friday October 24
TIME: 12:30 am (about 30 minutes after the last SketchFest performance)
WHERE: Union Garage at 1418 10th Ave. (between Pike & Union on Capitol Hill)
COST: $5 suggested donation for non-festival participants

This event is free and open to the public. Bagels provided while supplies last! BYOC – Bring your own coffee if desired.

LA GALERIE DES CLOWNS
CAPITOL HILL INTERNET LOUNGE AND CAFE
Where: 216 Broadway East
Opening and Reception: Friday September 12, 7p-9p.
Show runs through Sept 30, then re-opens at Broadway Performance Hall for the run of Seattle SketchFest, Oct 16-25th.

Seattle SketchFest (North America's Original Sketch Comedy Festival) turns the big 5 this year, and to help celebrate the occasion we proudly present "La Galerie des Clowns", The Gallery of Clowns! I'll admit that I, Mish McEntire, am responsible for this rather odd theme. I have never been a big fan of clowns, and frankly my viewing of the film Poltergeist clinched any doubts I may have had lingering as to the complete and utter evilness of clowns. Then, about 5 years ago, I inherited a very large, elaborately framed and possibly unfinished piece of clown art. I was drawn to it, couldn't resist the strangeness of its content, it became one of my prized possessions and turned my heart a little warmer on the subject of clowns.

Inspired by this strange piece of art, I decided there needed to be a show. If I had this wonderfully bizarre piece of art, there certainly had to be others out there who owned pieces like it, and artists out there who created them. In this show, you will encounter some of the most amazing original clown art you've ever seen! PLUS, we will be showing treasured clown pieces from the artist's own collections, including my gigantic, creepy, piece that started this whole crazy thing! And, of course, we couldn't have a clown show without actual clowns, could we? Come play with the clowns, dance with the clowns, look them right in the eye and tell them you are not afraid of them! <grin> It will be a night you will never forget!

"La Galerie des Clowns" features original and collected works by Jane Brooks, Iridius Izzarne, L. Kelly Lyles, Jessica McCourt, Mish McEntire, Theresa Neinas, Derek Nobbs, Patrick Romnaigh-Cooper, Rose Smith and Kipling West. Curated by Mish McEntire. Info: (206) 444-4294

7 Layer Dip!
Introducing the new “7 Layer Dip” Burger, exclusively from the kitchens of the Seattle SketchFest.

A new twist on an American Masterpiece, this “burger” is stacked seven layers high with mouth watering goodness. We start with the slow-basted taste explosion that is host Sylvia O’Stayforemore. Smother it with slices of the melt in your mouth stand up comedy of Scott Meyer. Hungry for even more? Well then it is a good thing we added an extra layer in the form of those succulent sirens of Sex in Seattle! Then it’s drizzled in a creamy Seattle TheatreSports sauce. We follow that with a double glazed punch of sketch comedy by Flaming Box of Stuff and the duo of Troy Fischnaller and Dusty Warren. For an extra flavor kick, try the savory musical performances of John McKenna, and The Diamond People, you won’t be disappointed. Crank up the heat with a dollop of tangy Tribal Belly Dancing by Troupe Hipnotica. Then to top it all off we dare you to get your mouth around the sizzling delicacy that is the one and only Peggy Platt. Known as the aristocrat of burgers (because we crown it with one fresh jumbo fried egg), the “7 Layer Dip” is served with a side of Raffle Prizes and Silent Art Auction.

SKETCHFEST FORUMS GONE WILD

The forum was born out of SketchFest 1999 when a few comedians from LA, Portland, and Seattle got together on Sunday morning to have lattes. Who knew that this would lead to passionate debates and playful arguments, with many ideas being exchanged? Due to the success of the annual forum, we began holding them monthly. The forum is a great opportunity for local comedians to meet each other and discuss the art of sketch.

Topics will vary from month to month. If you have an idea for a topic, please contact Val Bush at info@sketchfest.org.
