
Get your comedy chops in shape with this fast-paced, hands-on weekend workshop led by Emmy Award-winning writer Joe Guppy and Seattle SketchFest producer Sara Jo Geiger. You’ll explore how Joe and Sara Jo generate sketch ideas—from personal stories to wild “what if” premises—and break down iconic sketches from SNL, Key & Peele, Almost Live!, and more. Through writing prompts, improv games, and group feedback, you’ll build and refine your own original sketches. Whether you’re an aspiring performer or a seasoned creative looking to sharpen your comedic voice, this workshop is your chance to create, collaborate, and get seriously funny.

Joe Guppy won eight regional Emmy awards and a national Writers Guild award for his comedy writing and performing. He’s a former head writer/cast member for the Seattle comedy show “Almost Live!”, which ran for 15 seasons on KING5-TV. Joe is also a founding member of Seattle TheatreSports and has written television scripts for director John Landis (Blues Brothers, Animal House).
Sara Jo Geiger (she/her) is a Seattle-based improv and sketch comedian with over 18 years of theater and film experience. Born in Olympia and raised on “Almost Live!”, she has developed a deep passion for helping others discover their unique comedic voices.
Sara Jo believes that everyone has the potential to be brilliant and hilarious. She fosters an inclusive, encouraging space where performers of all levels can thrive.
